Project Description

The Samarra Water Treatment Plant has a design capacity of 6,000 m³/h of treated water, based on 22 hours of daily operation. Raw water is abstracted at the intake and conveyed to the chemical treatment stage, where coagulation and flocculation are achieved using alum dosing, followed by primary disinfection via chlorine. The conditioned water enters the clariflocculators for floc formation, clarification, and sludge separation. The clarified effluent is subsequently directed to the rapid gravity (sand) filtration units for final polishing. Treated filtrate is collected in the ground storage reservoir, from which high-lift pumping units convey the water to four downstream booster pumping stations for distribution to the service networks.

Scope of Work

The project includes the detailed design review of a 6,000 m³/hr Water Treatment Plant (WTP), 4 booster stations, and the associated transmission and distribution pipelines, supplied from Tigris River via a new intake. The review covers:

  • Intake Structure : Verify hydraulic and structural design for drawing water from Tigris River.
  • Water Treatment Plant (6,000 m³/hr) :Review treatment processes, hydraulic profile, mechanical/electrical systems, chemical dosing, and storage tanks.
  • Booster Stations (Baldrooz & Imam Asker) :Check pump selection, hydraulic head, surge protection, layouts, and all MEP systems.
  • Transmission & Distribution Pipelines: Intake to Samarra WTP: 2,000 m, DI PN16 & HDPE PN10, 6,300 m³/h (1,750 L/s)To Booster 1 (University): 4,000 m, DI 700 mm / HDPE 900 mm, 2,000 m³/h (556 L/s)To Booster 2 (Banat Al-Hasan): 7,900 m, DI 450 mm / HDPE 560 mm, 800 m³/h (222 L/s)To Booster 3 (Al-Jubriyah Road): 6,700 m, DI 800 mm / HDPE 900 mm, 2,500 m³/h (694 L/s)To Booster 4 (Al-Qala’a): 3,300 m, DI 400/350 mm / HDPE 500 mm, 700 m³/h (194 L/s)Electrical, Control & SCADA :Check power supply, automation, instrumentation, and interconnection between facilities.
  • Civil & Structural Works :Review buildings, foundations, supports, and site layouts.
  • Compliance & Deliverables: Ensure all designs, drawings, and BOQs meet project specifications and standards.
