Project Description

  • The Kattameya wastewater treatment plant, originally established with a capacity of 80,000 m³/day using Conventional Activated Sludge System, has been out of service for several years due to operational issues. The current project aims to rehabilitate the plant’s treatment lines up to secondary treatment capacity and includes a study to expand its capacity to 100,000 m³/day. A consultancy study has assessed the plant’s condition and identified necessary upgrades, such as equipment replacement, sludge management, aeration improvements, and water quality control.

Scope of Work

  • Assessment of Kattameya Wastewater Treatment Plant’s capacity and potential expansion from 80,000 m³/day to 100,000 m³/day, including rehabilitation.
  • Civil works, rather than electromechanical systems, limit capacity expansion.
  • At 80,000 m³/day, primary and secondary sedimentation tanks are overloaded.
  • Aeration tanks are at their design organic load limit, though reduced organic content in incoming wastewater could help.
  • Sludge handling units are overloaded, requiring additional equipment.
  • Expanding to 100,000 m³/day exceeds design limits and reduces treatment efficiency.
  • Overloading could compromise treated water quality.
  • Recommendation to maintain the current capacity of 80,000 m³/day and optimize existing infrastructure.
