Project Description

The project aims to operate the Mariout 1 station by utilizing water from the Al-Omum Drain at kilometer 85 of the Nubaria Canal, providing 2 million m3/day. It will blend Desert Reclamation Drain water with Mariout Canal water for agricultural use, thus conserving Nubaria Canal water. The project will also improve the quality of drinking water to meet the Egyptian Ministry of Health standards and international guidelines. Additionally, it will reduce operational costs for lifting turbid water to the 40-kilometer treatment plant by connecting directly to the clarifiers and lower maintenance costs for lifting pumps. Reusing 65,000 cubic meters of water in the second phase is also part of the plan.
